No, the Moto X-series may not be dead yet!
Soon after Lenovo acquired Motorola, there were rumors that the company may do away with the Moto X-line of smartphones. And despite Motorola moving from Moto X naming to Moto Z for its flagship devices, the existence of Moto X Play (2016) was recently spotted on benchmarking site Geekbench. The listing also reveals some details about its specifications and features.
Spotted by SlashGear, the alleged Moto X Play (2016) carries a model number Motorola XT1662. Based on the model number, it seems to be the successor to last year’s Moto X Play, which carries a model number XT156X. It remains to be seen if we will also see a Moto X Style (2016) or the company may just go with one Moto X smartphone.
The listing reveals that the smartphone features a 4.6-inch full HD (1080p) display. Under the hood is MediaTek’s MT6755 (Helio P10) octa-core processor clocked at 2.1GHz and paired with 3GB of RAM and Mali-T860 GPU.
With 32GB onboard storage, there is no word on whether or not it is further expandable via microSD card. In the photography department, the smartphone features a 16-megapixel auto-focus rear camera with LED flash and a front-facing 8-megapixel selfie camera. Both cameras also support 1080p video recording.
