Ringing Bells has 2,00,000 units to ship, and over 70 million people have registered. The company will hold a lucky draw to shortlist those who will get the Freedom 251 smartphone. Looking at the numbers, only one in 350 registered users would get the phone. That's right; the harrowing registration window was just the tip of the iceberg. Ringing Bells will do all it takes to make the Freedom 251 count for the select few who will be actually able to get it. It is after all the world's most affordable smartphone.
Life is going to be worse for those living in Uttar Pradesh, as the odds of actually getting a unit, become even less. The company has reportedly received 25 million registrations from UP alone, and it isn't planning to ship not more than 10,000 units here.
The company was supposed to start delivering on its promise of an ultra-affordable smartphone latest by June 28, although the original promise was to sell the Freedom 251 in the market from the end of February.
The Freedom 251 comes with a 4-inch display and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which is further expandable by up to 32GB via microSD card. The dualSIM 3G capable phone runs Android 5.1 Lollipop and is backed by a 1,800 mAh battery. It sports an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 3.2-megapixel front camera.
